The TOEFL class at Canada College offers a unique, comprehensive and effective approach by focusing on the techniques and skills you need to succeed in the exam. Our program also makes use of official TOEFL materials.

This class will show you how to improve your score quickly, so you will be prepared to attend the desired universities and graduate schools.

In the TOEFL preparation program at Canada College, you will receive 70 hours of English instruction: Monday to Friday, in day time sessions from 10:00am-12:00pm, or evening sessions from 6:30pm-8:30pm. Schedule could also be decided by the students votes.

  • Classes focus on strategies you need to excel.
  • Teacher and computer instruction.
  • 3 Practice tests.

Course Description

The TOEFL Course is designed to help students improve audio and reading comprehension, structure and written expression. The TOEFL Preparation Course also includes computer lab time offering both tutorial assistance and practice the format and style of the TOEFL Computer Base-Test. In addition, TOEFL students are encouraged to register for our free lab sessions.

Who is qualified?

The program is designed primarily for students whose present TOEFL score ranges between 400-500 (97-173). Prior to the first week of class, a practice TOEFL exam will be taken by the applicants. If the student achieves a score below 400, he or she will have the option to attend our free English classes until the student's level of English proficiency is equal to that of 400 or better(provided that the student is registered at our full-time ESL program). The student may periodically take practice TOEFL exams while in the English program to monitor progress.

TOEFL Scores

Some students think it is very difficult to achieve a TOEFL score that is high enough for admission to a good university or college. Actually, any good student can achieve an acceptable TOEFL score, with the help of a good preparatory course such as one offered by Canada College of Education.

ESSAY WRITING.

For the TOEFL exam, students may be asked to write an essay. Here, some basic information regarding essay writing:

  1. Remember that an essay is multi-paragraphed writing. An essay has three main parts: an Introduction, a Body and a Conclusion.
  2. The Introduction sets up the paper and concludes with a very clear, specific thesis statement. A strong Introduction will set the tone for the rest of the paper. A good thesis should identify the main sections/ideas in the paper; it acts as a sort of "mini-outline".
  3. The Body should have a number of paragraphs covering the main points. Remember that a paragraph has the same basic construction as an essay: an Introduction (topic sentence that tells the reader what you will be discussing in that paragraph), a Body, and a Conclusion. It is very rare for a paragraph to have fewer than five or six sentences. This is where you will include your examples, arguments, objections, etc.
  4. The Conclusion should not be cut short, either in terms of length or content. This is what the reader will read last and, statistics show, what the reader will remember most. Therefore, you will want to finish with a strong paragraph.
